About the role
To provide an effective, supportive, and confidential service for women and children requiring emergency refuge accommodation. You will work as part of a team to ensure the effective running of the refuge, and to provide practical and emotional support to women and children and help them to overcome the impact of domestic abuse. You will provide high quality advocacy and support to survivors. The successful candidates will have significant proven experience and practical support to survivors of domestic violence.

Part Time Cleaning Operative

Title: Cleaning Operative – Female*

Hours of Work: 10 hours per week (Mon-Fri) - The days and hours are flexible and can be agreed subject to the needs of the business.
Salary/Scale: £6,272.28 PA (£12.06 per hour) (NJC Local Authority Pay Scale point 3)

We are seeking new Trustees to become part of SWA’s active and committed Board of Trustees

We offer support by providing safe accommodation, specialist support services and by working in partnership with other agencies. All women and children have the right to live their lives free from fear and harm.
 
What is involved?
  • The ability to engage with and commit time to the role of Trustee which involves a commitment of approximately 10 hours per quarter.
  • Attending bi-monthly meetings and occasional additional Board meetings. Preparation for meetings involves at least a couple of hours reading. Papers for Board meetings are sent a week in advance.
  • Attending SWA’s AGM.
  • Assist with the induction of new Board members, once established on the Board, in order that the Board is always growing and making the best of the women it has.
Requirements:
  • Sign SWA’s Trustee Code of Conduct and work according to its values and expectations.
  • Undertake specific and core governance training, as appropriate, particularly where you commit to additional Board responsibilities.

Practicalities:

  • All reasonable travel, overnight, subsistence and other expenses incurred doing Trustee work are paid by SWA promptly on submission of an expenses claim in accordance with SWA’s guidance.
  • Save for expenses and appropriate training, this role is not remunerated.
  • SWA encourages and will pay for training in relation to Trustee role.
  • The SWA Board and CEO will provide induction for new Trustees when they join the Board.
  • Some Trustees will be enabled by their organisation to attend meetings and undertake other SWA work (e.g., interview panels) during their working day time, while others are not. The Board tries to balance this and arrange meetings to suit women whatever their work commitments and location.
